A DAY IN NICE: MUST-VISIT SPOTS AND FAVOURITE HAUNTS

Visiting Nice and unsure where to start? We’ve scouted out the must-visit spots for your getaway. All served up the Niçoise way: sunshine, relaxation, indulgence… the perfect combo.

A DAY IN NICE: MUST-VISIT SPOTS AND FAVOURITE HAUNTS

A sweet start at Marinette

Right in the heart of Nice’s Old Town (Vieux-Nice), start your day with a proper breakfast at Marinette. Here, your eyes may well be bigger than your stomach – plates are piled high with treats, from classic viennoiseries to traditional French pastries. Grab a table on the terrace or beneath the lovely glass roof and soak in the morning calm.

Next? Head for Cours Saleya and dive into the buzz of the flower market – an essential stop. We recommend getting a little lost in the nearby backstreets to discover the shaded little alleyways of this historic neighbourhood.

Shopping break on Place Masséna

Next stop: Nice’s iconic square – Place Masséna, of course. Galeries Lafayette proudly stands tall here, a beacon over Nissa la Bella. This department store offers a wide range of brands, from prestigious French labels to the latest trends, spanning fashion, leather goods, jewellery, beauty and more.

Every Wednesday at 3pm, a free guided tour of the building takes you on a journey through its history. The store is also full of exclusive services: a personal shopper to guide you, Dior treatment rooms for a wellbeing break, and a restaurant boasting unbeatable views over the square.

Next? Head down rue Masséna – the pedestrian precinct at the heart of the Carré d’Or – and wander along avenue Jean Médecin and its side streets for an all-too-tempting shopping spree.

At the twelfth cannon shot, it’s time to don your swimsuit for the rest of the programme.

L’appel du soleil à la Ruhl Plage

How to enjoy the midday heat in complete tranquillity? That’s easy – the Niçois way. Head to Ruhl Plage, a historic beach in town, instantly recognisable by its iconic blue and white parasols – stars of many a postcard. Have lunch by the sea, then stretch out on a sun lounger, lulled by the sea breeze and the sound of the waves.

Service is available at the table or directly on your lounger, so you can sip something cool and enjoy a delicious lunch – with the Promenade des Anglais just behind you. It’s the dream spot for a proper break, practically with your feet in the water, a good book in hand and sunshine as your only plan.

A cultural escape at the Matisse Museum

Now, time to climb a little higher and discover another side of Nice. Nestled in the hills of Cimiez, the Villa des Arènes – a stunning 17th-century mansion – is home to the Matisse Museum. The artist created a significant part of his work here, inspired by the city’s light and colour. Today, a rich collection allows visitors to immerse themselves in his world and his deep connection to Nice.

Afterwards, take a stroll through the Arènes de Cimiez gardens, explore the remains of Roman baths at the Archaeological Museum, or continue on to the Cimiez Monastery rose garden. From up there, a breathtaking panoramic view unfolds across the entire city. A timeless moment, suspended between culture and nature.

A dinner suspended above the sea

To round off the day in style, head to one of Nice’s most iconic spots: Le Plongeoir. Perched on a rocky outcrop, this restaurant looks as though it’s floating above the sea. The setting is unique – and the experience unforgettable. Chef Loïc Buisson offers refined cuisine blending Niçoise and Italian influences with ultra-fresh seafood.  Every dish is beautifully crafted and vibrant, just right for a seaside dinner. Top tip: booking ahead is highly recommended – this spot is always in demand.

Extend the night with a lively vibe

After dinner, take a breezy walk along Nice’s Port and admire the “pointus” – traditional Niçoise fishing boats – before making your way to Nice’s Old Town (Vieux-Nice), which takes on a whole new life after dark. Lively restaurants, bars, packed alleyways… The perfect spot for one last drink? We recommend the festive Waka Bar or the warm, welcoming Movida – two dance bars loved by the locals.

Fancy something a bit more cultural? Let yourself be charmed by the Opéra de Nice, a listed historical monument with a rich and refined programme.
