Located in the heart of Vieux Nice, the Cours Saleya market has been around since 1816 and is recognized as being of exceptional quality.
Stop for a moment to admire the spectacle of row upon row of stalls with their gaily-striped awnings, set against the backdrop of Castle Hill and its artificial waterfall. On both sides stand historic buildings painted red and ochre, arcades and then the sea. The flowers, fruit and vegetables sold here are picked fresh daily by local growers.
Walk from stand to stand – and then retrace your
steps. You’ll find locally-grown courgettes, lemons from the Nice hinterland
and olives. Go a little further to find fish and freshly-caught Mediterranean seafood.
Breathe in the aromas emanating from bunches of peonies, freesias and of
course, roses, the queen of flowers.
Finally, take the weight off your feet at one of the many outdoor café and
restaurant terraces.
The Cours Saleya market is a much-loved Nice institution that’s busy all the year round!
