The boulevard derives its name from the old valley through which it runs, which was called “Gorbellon” or “Gorbeloun”. It is now one of Nice’s main north-south arteries and runs from Square Boyer to Place Fontaine du Temple. Modern buildings stand alongside characteristic Nice houses, interspersed with local shops and supermarkets. The Ray-Gorbella market is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays morning on Place Fontaine du Temple.
